Train plan for Donald
Passenger trains will return to Donald if the Victorian Coalition wins government in November elections.
The Coalition has promised to invest $32-million to extend V-line passenger services on a Maryborough line with stops at Dunolly and St Arnaud before terminating at Donald.
The promise also includes station upgrades at St Arnaud, Donald and Dunolly, taking advantage of improved track conditions along a Mildura line through a Murray Basin rail project.
Member for Ripon Louise Staley said the regional community had wanted the service for many years.
“A lot of residents in Donald, St Arnaud and Dunolly thought this day would never come,” she said.
“Travelling by train is far more comfortable than travelling on a bus. Upgrading the rail stations at Dunolly and St Arnaud will modernise these important community facilities, provide important economic activity in the short term, and connect our region with the rest of the state.”
