Giant Koala shining brightly

The Giant Koala on the Western Highway at Dadswells Bridge will shine a distinctive bright yellow until Monday as part of a road-safety awareness campaign.

Road Trauma Support Services Victoria is illuminating the Giant Koala with lights donated from the State Emergency Service as part of its Shine a Light on Road Safety project.

Staff members at Mcdonald’s restaurants in Stawell, Horsham and Ararat are also wearing t-shirts and selling pins as part of the promotion.

Shine a Light on Road Safety Grampians co-ordinator Daniel Bell said the promotion coincided with National Road Safety Week and included illumination projects across the state.

“Friday is also ‘leave your headlights on day’. It’s all about raising awareness about the impact of road trauma,” he said.

“The message in our part of the world is that rural deaths occur or rural roads.”
