Hamer back for Demons reunion
Horsham Football Club triple premiership coach and player Gary Hamer will be among guests at a dinner at Horsham City Oval on Saturday night.
Hamer, also a former star cricketer in Horsham, will join the Demons for a joint 1968 and 2008 premiership reunion.
Horsham club spokesman Rod Dumesny said the Demons had enjoyed a strong response to invitations to the event, which would be part of a Saturday night football and netball fixture against Southern Mallee Giants.
“It’s going to be fantastic. We’ve had a great response and there are a lot of people coming,” he said.
Reunion activities start upstairs at Horsham City Oval clubrooms from 4pm. A senior football match will start at 6.20pm.
Records show that Hamer’s underdog Horsham team won the 1968 premiership from fourth spot over flag favourite Stawell in the dramatic last moments of the game. Scores were Horsham 8.9 (57) to Stawell 6.17 (53).
In 2008, Horsham won a one-sided affair against Horsham Saints 19.14 (128) to 9.8 (80).
