Cancer centre work underway
A Wimmera Cancer Centre site has been a hive of activity.
While the lack of rain has been far from great for farmers, it has allowed a good start to construction of the centre.
Wimmera Health Care Group project officer Herb Krelle said works were progressing ‘nicely’.
“The foundations have been laid and the sewage has been roughed in,” she said.
“The slab was poured in two sections with block work for the final part of the slab just completed.
“The second half of the slab was poured on April 24. The next couple of weeks will see the mark out and installation of the steel columns and beams.” A working group has engaged with patients and team members about colour choices and finishes for the walls and floors.
The group has chosen a blue theme and will undertake further consultation for the furnishings. Organisations and individuals are continuing to donate money to the new centre, which will support the community with cancer, palliative care and dialysis services.
