Eventide in cancer fight

-

Stawell retirement village Eventide Homes will present is own ‘Eventide Classic’ walk today as part of Mother’s Day Classic events raising money and awareness for breast-cancer research.

It has invited the public to walk with residents, family members and staff for a casual 400-metre walk followed by a sausage-sizzle lunch.

Volunteer co-ordinator Toni Williams said inspiration for the centre to host its own event came from the success of a new walking program established by Southwest TAFE aged-care students who are studying on site at Eventide Homes.

“The program has been designed for residents to enjoy outdoor activities by either walking, wheelchair or walking aids,” she said.

“We have four specially planned walking routes to offer variety in what the residents encounter on each walking session.

“Eventide Homes is now looking for volunteers to facilitate this walking group each week – a great fitness activity for all involved.”

People keen to help raise money by being involved in the Eventide Classic will pay a $2 entry fee.

The walk starts at Eventide Homes’ front entrance at 11am.

Mrs Williams said anyone interested in volunteering at Eventide Homes could call her on 0428 482 285.
