Preusker’s golden run in two states

-

Horsham trainer Paul Preusker enjoyed a superb weekend, training four winners across two states.

Firstly, it was Preusker’s impressive last-start Horsham winner I Am Someone contesting a 1050-metre handicap at Morphettville with Declan Bates aboard the exciting three-year-old.

After being a little tardy, I Am Someone soon mustered good speed to settle in the box seat.

The Onemorenomore gelding travelled sweetly before the turn, and when balanced was given clear galloping room and began to let down strongly.

I Am Someone proved too nippy over the short course, scoring by a length and a half.

The Mckenzie Creek stable turned its attention to a Wimmera meeting at Donald, where it had a strong hand.

Recent stable acquisition Astrobelle lined up in a 1000-metre maiden plate and despite racing deeply for most of the trip, the Astronomer Royal mare was too strong under Dean Holland, saluting by a half-length.

Lotza Focus soon added to the tally with a barnstorming run in a 1200-metre handicap.

The son of Strategic Maneuver relished the soft-five track conditions, scoring easily.

Lastly, it was Jack In The Ditch in the final event, the 2000-metre Donald Football Club Handicap for Horsham jockey Christine Puls.

The restricted-class stayer dashed to the front at the 600-metre mark, and made it a true stamina test.

Jack In The Ditch out-stayed his rivals, scoring by a length and a half.

Bert and Dodson

Telopea Downs trainer Darryl Dodson also tasted success at Morphettville last weekend.

The Dodson stable had emerging galloper Bertwhistle engaged in an 1800-metre handicap with Alfred Chan in the saddle.

The daughter of Al Maher was aided by a gun ride from Chan and dashed clear over the concluding stages, saluting by one-and-a-half lengths.

August wins classic

Sutton Grange trainer Brent Stanley produced a smart debutante The August in a 1200-metre twoyear-old classic.

The August, $12, a son of I Am Invincible, found the best going on the crown of the track, flashing home late for a three-quarter-length win with John Keating aboard.
