Bright sparks think, dream big

-

Nhill College students have been undertaking several inquiry-based projects through a SPARK education program.

The program aims to help students build real-life skills outside of the classroom.

There is no set curriculum or text books.

Instead, participants gain skills and knowledge in areas such as careers, civics and citizenship, communications and economics through the projects they choose to work on and teacher-led tutorials.

Bianca Roantree, who alongside Carmen Trenery and Charlotte Foulds is a SPARK support teacher, said the content students learnt was driven by their interests.

“We are encouraging the students to think and dream big in order to find topics and projects they are passionate about,” she said.

“In order to assist students to develop practical projects, we are removing the ‘walls’ of the traditional classroom and inviting students to participate in projects that involve them working in various locations around the school campus and with members of the local community.

“Our aim is to help students develop real-world, practical workplace skills through integrated learning and groupbased projects.”
