Flying Magpies take on Lions

- BY JONATHAN BOX

Unbeaten and top-of-the-ladder Wickliffe-lake Bolac will venture into round-six games in Mininera and District Football League and take on Great Western.

The Magpies most recent win before a general bye last week was over SMW Rovers by more than 10 goals, when inaccuracy in front of goal kept their opposition in the game.

However, the second half was where Wickliffe-lake Bolac did the damage, kicking 11.11 to 1.3, and this is an ominous warning to its opponents this weekend.

Will Slattery was on song in front of goal against the Bulldogs, adding another four to his total, and a midfield led by Bailey Veale and Brad Keilar along with Chris Thornton and Michael Otto across the half back line proved telling.

Great Western will be keen to take a big scalp after having its best start to the season since joining the competition.

With three wins the Lions are just hanging in the five by percentage and will be hoping to keep that spot.

Their last game saw them go down to Glenthompson-dunkeld by 44 points despite the best efforts of Thomas Cairns, Justin Thomas, Aiden Lee and Samuel Cocks.

Meanwhile, with both coming off solid round-five wins and having four wins apiece, Penshurst takes on Glenthompson-dunkeld.

Both teams will be hoping to secure a win to give them some early breathing room.

Ben Hunt and Joshua Rentsch will look to again lead the Bombers up forward, while Samuel Rentsch, Chay Deary and Justin Eales will be other key players.

Rams Tyler Fehsler and Adam Cameron will be the ones looking to do the damage in Saturday’s game.

After a slow start to the season, SMW Rovers host neighbours Tatyoon.

Rovers are sitting 1-4 going into this match but they will hope players such as Tom Thewlis, Tim Langdon and Tom Mcwilliam can lead them out of their slump.

Tatyoon, however, is sitting just outside the five with three wins, its most recent over Woorndoo-mortlake where Matthew Pell and Steven Butler managed multiple goals and Sean Mcdougall and Tim Barr led from the front. A win for either team will be vital this weekend.

In other games, Caramut, still searching for its first win, takes on Ararat Eagles, Moyston-willaura hosts Lismore-derrinallum and Woorndoo-mortlake takes on Hawkesdale-macarthur.
