Book-lovers out in force

-

Wimmera book-lovers made the most of an opportunity to bag some bargains at the latest Horsham College Chaplaincy Book Fair.

The biannual event raises money to employ two school chaplains.

Book fair organiser Yolande Grosser said last week’s event raised $5887.25 from the sale of items ranging from 50 cents to $1. “I think it’s a record,” she said. “There seemed to be more people than usual and there was a steady stream on both days. It had a really good vibe.

“We are just blown away by the response. The packing-up process seemed a lot easier this time around and I think it’s because we sold so many books.”

Mrs Grosser said an on-site café raised $129.40 towards a scholarship for alternative program students.

Horsham’s Helen Thomas is a regular visitor to the chaplaincy book fair and sang its praises to The Weekly Advertiser on Friday.

“I wouldn’t miss it – I think it’s wonderful,” she said.

“I brought in a bag of books to donate and it looks like I’ll be going home with a bag of books.”

The chaplaincy committee will host the next book fair in November.

People can donate books and magazines at the Horsham College double storey building in Dimboola Road, next to Maroske Hall.
