All welcome to final exhibition
After 12 years, the Artrageous program for young people with a disability will host its final exhibition of paintings, drawings and sculptures.
Carer respite co-ordinator, Mark Hawkins from Community Options, said Artrageous has been a popular program and it will be missed by all involved.
“This will be the final exhibition for the Artrageous group after 12 years of getting together fortnightly,” Mr Hawkins said.
“The funding for the program is transitioning to the NDIS.
“The program was delivered in a partnership with the Ballarat Health Service and was funded through the Department of Health and Human Services.”
For over a decade young participants with creative abilities have gathered to create art and from the frenzy of these sessions some extraordinary art work has emerged. By ignoring usual boundaries and getting messy, the participants discover new, unimaginable territories.
“Each session is an unstructured freestyle art experience, where participants create something unique,” Mr Hawkins said.
“Community Options has been able to provide many participants the opportunity to meet in a space where there is no judgment and plenty of enthusiasm.
“The budding artists have explored the many possible ways of art making, while building their confidence and self-esteem, stimulating their creativity and building positive relationships.
“This would not have been possible without the support of Anthony Pelchen and Mary French along with attendant care workers and all of the, participants, families and community members involved.
“We would also like to thank Federation University for providing the space to meet every fortnight, free of charge.” The final exhibition will be held at the Christine Smith Gallery, Federation University, Baillie Street, Horsham from June 1-15, weekdays from 9am to 4.45pm.
