Year-six students from Horsham schools have put their skills to the test in a ‘Maths Olympics’ competition.

Students from Horsham, Horsham West and Haven, Ss Michael and John’s, Laharum and Natimuk primary schools and Holy Trinity Lutheran College, came together at Horsham College to battle it out for the win.

Horsham College transition co-ordinator Heather Deayton said the day provided students with connections and familiarity at the college.

“It gives the students a chance to see and meet students from other schools,” she said.

“It also allows them to see that schools do similar things.

“They are able to mix together and they have a lot of fun.” all

The year-six students, representing their schools, contested a three-round competition.

‘HPS1’ from Horsham Primary School placed first in round one and in round two, Horsham West Primary School’s ‘Westies’ took the win. Horsham Holy Trinity Lutheran College’s ‘Decimal Devils’ won round three and took out the overall competition.

“The Maths Olympics are run as part of education week and allow the students to learn and use math skills in a fun environment,” Mrs Deayton said.

“Horsham College’s year-nine students provide mentoring and leadership during the day, working with the year-six students.
