Wimmera White Ribbon Committee has helped women fleeing family violence situations by providing special hygiene packs.
Wimmera Health Care Group community health manager Janine Harfield said the packs were made possible thanks to donations from Wimmera residents.
“Due to the generosity of the community, through both fundraising and donations, the Wimmera White Ribbon Committee has been able to provide more than 50 hygiene packs for local women experiencing family violence,” she said.
“Priceline Pharmacy Horsham has been a major contributor.”
The packs include a toothbrush and toothpaste, sanitary items, shampoo and conditioner, a hair brush, deodorant, soap and moisturiser.
“All of the essential items are given to a women who is fleeing her home, often with her children and nothing else,” Ms Harfield said.
Grampians Community Health family violence and homelessness case manager Jess Johns said the packs were shared among the regional Specialist Family Violence Service Grampians Community Health and Salvoconnect.
“Since October 2017, Grampians Community Health alone has responded to more than 229 women who have experienced family violence,” she said.
“To have access to the hygiene packs is wonderful.
“We really appreciate the financial support from the wider community that allowed the purchase of these packs.”
Community groups or individuals who wish to support the committee’s work to prevent men’s violence against women, can make tax deductable donations at Grampians Community Health, 25 David Street, Horsham.
