Top two set for Mininera battle

- BY JONOTHAN BOX

Ararat will be hoping to make it two wins on the trot in round seven Mininera District Football League action, while Wickliffelake Bolac will be playing to get itself two games clear on top of the ladder.

Ararat hosts Hawkesdale-macarthur, and will be looking to add to its winning tally after its second win for the season over Caramut last week.

The game started off even, with only two points separating the teams at quarter time.

The Eagles kicked away in the second term, and although Caramut got within one point in the third quarter, the Eagles proved too strong, coming out 25-point victors.

Brent Bulger once again led the way in front of goals, booting five, while Harrison Ennis, Zac Jenkins and Ned Hutchinson provided plenty of heavy lifting around the ground.

However, Hawkesdale-macarthur will be no easy beat, and after coming off a two-goal loss last weekend will be eager to go a step further and take away the four points.

Patrick Sinnott will be one to watch in front of goal having kicked 24 for the season so far, and with Ben Gow, Brady Purcell and Aaron Seabrook all playing good footy, it will be a very solid match between the two sides.

Wickliffe-lake Bolac, still not having dropped a game, takes on second-placed Penshurst. With both teams coming off substantial wins last round, the Magpies will be hoping to continue their strong start to the season, while Penshurst will aim to take the big scalp of Wickliffe-lake Bolac, something no one has achieved thus far this season.

Will Slattery continued his dominance in front of goal, kicking another four, sharing the workload with Brock Wardlaw who also scored four goals.

Harley Hunter, Brad Keilar and Aaron Taggart are all in fine form, making the Magpies tough to beat at home.

In with a chance

Penshurst will fancy itself a good chance having only lost one game so far and coming off its most recent 10-goal win over Glenthompson-dunkeld.

The side displayed excellent skill, kicking only one point from its 18 shots on goal.

Chris Eales had a day out kicking six goals with Joshua Rentsch helping out with three of his own. And with Justin Eales and Joseph Franklin being in fine form, the Bombers will be poised to take on the ladder leaders.

In other games, SMW Rovers host Woorndoo-mortlake, Lismore-derrinallum plays Caramut, Glenthompson-dunkeld and Moyston-willaura take each other on at Dunkeld and Tatyoon plays at home against Great Western.
