Prom­i­nent leader dies

A funeral for for­mer par­lia­men­tar­ian and Hor­sham mayor Bernie Dunn, of Brim­paen, will be at St An­drew’s Unit­ing Church in Hor­sham to­mor­row at 2pm.

Mr Dunn, 73, died on Fri­day morn­ing af­ter a bat­tle with can­cer.

Orig­i­nally from War­rackn­abeal, Mr Dunn was a Na­tional Party Mem­ber for North West­ern Prov­ince in State Par­lia­ment’s Leg­isla­tive Coun­cil from 1969 to 1988.

He was a Hor­sham Ru­ral City Coun­cil mayor four times from 1997 to 2005 and played a ma­jor role in the re­de­vel­op­ment of Hor­sham live­stock op­er­a­tions and Hor­sham Aquatic Cen­tre.

Mr Dunn won recog­ni­tion for his ser­vices to the com­mu­nity in 2007 with a Medal of the Or­der of Aus­tralia.
