Schultz wins title
Dimboola Ski Club member Andrew Schultz is the Victorian Barefoot Club’s 2018 men’s three barefoot waterski champion.
Schultz won the title at the Victorian state championships at Max Kirwan Water Ski Park, Mulwala in March.
He went on to compete at the Australian Barefoot Water Ski Championships in Adelaide in April, finishing ninth in a field of 19 in the men’s three division. This was Schultz’s first season of competitive barefoot waterskiing.
His foray into competition was prompted by participating in and placing third in men’s three at the Peter Taylor Barefoot Waterski Memorial event at Dimboola in October last year.
Barefoot SA ran the event at Dimboola Ski Club on the Wimmera River.
“If I can do it, anyone can do it,” Schultz said.
“We have some very talented waterskiers in the Wimmera and I encourage all barefooters to come and participate in this year’s Peter Taylor Memorial, which will be at Dimboola again on November 2 and 3.”
The Peter Taylor Memorial event remembers a great Victorian and Australian representative barefoot skier.
The event also aims to boost the sport’s profile and raise money for cancer charities.
