Kealy: Petition in parliament
Apetition with 300 signatures of people supporting development of a Warracknabeal Education Precinct project has reached State Parliament.
Member for Lowan Emma Kealy, who launched the petition last month, tabled the document in parliament last week.
Ms Kealy said the petition was part of a concerted effort to get the project back on track ‘and to fix the Andrews Labor government’s mess of half-built schools’.
“Labor has provided only a fraction of the funding required to complete the project, leaving the plan to consolidate the Warracknabeal Special Development School, secondary college and primary school in limbo,” she said.
“The schools now face the impossible decision of continuing to work over split campuses or just staying put and leaving new school buildings empty until additional funding is received.
“Labor’s made a mess of this project. The school community and Warracknabeal district have sent an overwhelming message to Premier Daniel Andrews that they won’t stand for this neglect.”
Ms Kealy said the petition sent a clear message to Labor.
“All young people are entitled to a quality education, whether they live in the city or the country, and the residents of Lowan will accept nothing less,” she said.
“We must be able to give our local children access to the very best educational services and opportunities and I will continue to fight for a better deal for quality education in our region.”
