Murtoa weekend is getting bigger

-

Murtoa’s Big Weekend is set to excite and amuse all ages with organisers arranging a great program of events.

From October 5 to 7, the last weekend of school holidays, the event, proudly sponsored by Murra Warra Wind Farm, represents an open invitation for people to visit Murtoa.

Organisers have promised something for everyone.

Following the annual Murtoa Show on Friday morning, a Family Fun and Film Night with a fireworks display at Lake Marma on Friday evening is back by popular demand.

People are encouraged to bring a picnic rug or chair, and ‘be entertained’.

This year the committee has reintroduced an art exhibition and sale that will display not only paintings, but also other works of art including sculpture and quilting.

Many of the works on display will be available for sale.

Another new attraction being introduced this year is a scarecrow competition, promising to add a lot of colour to Marma and Duncan streets during and leading up to Murtoa’s Big Weekend.

Saturday morning’s Street Market and RACV Show ’n’ Shine promises to be another outstanding event, as does the Murtoa Cup race meeting on Saturday afternoon.

Something special for youth on Saturday afternoon will be esports@murtoa College.

esports is the fastest growing sport in the world.

It is a sport for all ages, providing a good social outing and is easy to master for first timers. Head along to Murtoa College between 2pm and 5pm to enjoy the free experience.

Murtoa Stick Shed will again feature a community choirs program culminating in a mass choir presentation on Saturday afternoon.

The shed will open for public viewing on each of the three days of Murtoa’s Big Weekend.

Murtoa Water Tower Museum and Dunmunkle Sumpoilers will open on Saturday and Sunday with both offering plenty to see and do when visiting.

This year’s ecumenical service on Sunday morning will feature guest speaker Glen Mills, executive trustee and program manager for Asia and Africa for the Delivering Better Lives Foundation, formerly of Murtoa.

A Rainbow Colour Run will take place around Lake Marma with participants assembling at 9.30am on the Sunday morning for a 10am start.
