Fresh Favonski too good on return

-

Horsham-owned and Warrnambool-trained Favonski continued her impressive fresh record, with a winning return at Coleraine on Sunday.

In the care of Daniel Bowman, the six-year-old last raced during the May Warrnambool carnival and this time lined up in a benchmark-64 event, over 1050 metres.

Georgina Cartwright was back in the saddle, having previously been successful aboard Favonski.

Favonski camped behind a speed battle and got the run of the race. Rounding the home turn, the daughter of Gonski eased into clear galloping room, letting down with a strong run.

Over the concluding stages, the 59-kilogram impost proved no problems for Favonski as she dashed clear to score an easy win.

Bred and part-owned by Horsham’s Dunn Family, Favonski boasts a handy record of six wins and six minor placings from her 21 starts.

Rowe’s purple patch

Stawell trainer John Rowe ended an 11-year winless drought a fortnight ago with Melbourne Hero and now boasts his second winner in as many weeks.

The Rowe yard ventured to Penola, with Rocktheblock, for a 1400-metre maiden.

Horsham jockey Christine Puls had riding duties.

Having been reasonably consistent at his past few starts, Rocktheblock, $5.50, attracted some support from punters.

Puls, who is a good judge of pace, took the Rockaroundtheblock gelding to the front for an uncontested lead.

From there, Rocktheblock enjoyed a soft run.

When balanced, the four-year-old fought on gamely for a gutsy halflength win.

The victory was Rocktheblock’s first in 12 starts, however, based on this performance, another win on the Limestone Coast could be around the corner.

King in winners circle

Horsham-owned and bred veteran Dubai King returned to the winners list, at Tatura at the weekend.

Dubai King, which is bred and part owned by Horsham Racing Club committeeman Jim Lonsdale, lined up in a 1600-metre event at benchmark-64 level.

Trained by Josh Julius and ridden by sister Melissa, Dubai King pushed forward to camp behind early leader, Passover.

The nine-year-old showed his class as he poured the pressure on well before the turn.

Upon straightening, Dubai King gave a strong kick while hugging the rails. Over the final stages, the son of Dubai Destination toughed it out for a long-neck win.

Dubai King has been a good money-spinner for Lonsdale and his connections, boasting 10 wins and $168,145 in earnings.
