Angling season starts
With the cooler weather still holding, fish remained hard to find as Stawell Angling Club members fished an open water competition, their first for the season.
Taylors Lake was the standout water, producing some good yellowbelly, while the fish are still quiet at Lake Fyans.
Lake Lonsdale is fish.
Darren Smith enjoyed a good competition, landing four yellowbelly for an aggregate length of 191 centimetres to take out top honours from Paul Whelan, with three redfin measuring 105.5cm.
Tracey Keilar caught a solid 45cm redfin at Fyans to claim third. still not producing
Only one junior was successful, with Lesinda Keirl catching a 33cm rainbow trout at Lake Fyans.
The longest fish was one of Smith’s yellowbelly at 57cm. All the yellowbelly were returned to the water to catch another day.
The next club competition will be a bank-only event at Taylors Lake.
The competition will run from 7am on October 6 until noon the following day.
The final measure will be at 12.15pm on Sunday at the club’s gazebo and banner.
New members are welcome to participate.
