Variety for charity day

-

An annual East Grampians Health Service Charity Golf Day at Chalambar Golf Club is expanding to include a bowls event and a fun runwalk this year.

In addition to the three-person ambrose event, where participants have the opportunity to win a car for a hole-in-one on the 18th hole, organisers have added an open triples bowls event and a six-kilometre run and three-kilometre walk to the October 14 charity fundraiser.

The additions are designed to increase participation, with great prizes on offer for all events.

There will also be free music on the Chalambar Golf Club deck from 5pm to 8pm.

ACE Radio, through The Weekly Advertiser and radio stations 3WM and MIXX FM, Kings Cars and Brian Thomas Electrical have again come on board as major sponsors. Many other businesses are also offering sponsorship and raffle prizes.

This year’s event is raising money for a plinth chair for the EGHS Community Health Centre’s dental and podiatry services.

Plinth chairs can be elevated and reclined electronically, have an adjustable headrest and are suitable for aged, less mobile and disabled clients.

Michael Smith from Kings Cars encouraged golfers from across the region to enter a team and help raise money for the health service.

“We are pleased to once again partner with the health service as a major sponsor of the charity golf day,” he said.

“It is important for us as a business to show our support for organisations such as East Grampians Health Service. We’d also love to see the car won – a hole-in-one might be elusive, but it’s not impossible.”

Chalambar Bowls Club is also encouraging bowlers to get a team together for the open triples event while the Stawell and Ararat Cross Country Club has come on board to help organise the fun run and walk.

All capabilities

SACCC president Peter Gibson said people of all capabilities could participate in the event, either by taking part in a six-kilometre fun run or a shorter three-kilometre walk.

Both courses will be around the picturesque Chalambar golf course.

“The fun run and walk will be a great opportunity see parts of the golf course you normally don’t get to see and will provide plenty of photographic opportunities of the surrounding scenery,” Mr Gibson said.

“The run will also be a great lead-up training run for the Ararat Run with the Wind running festival.”

Entry for the three-person ambrose event is $90 a team and $45 a team for the three-person open triples bowls event.

Entry includes a barbecue lunch, afternoon tea and a free raffle ticket.

Entry for the fun run-walk is $15 an adult and $5 a child under 14. Entry includes a bottle of water, fruit, muffin and free ticket in the lucky draw.

Entry forms are available from Chalambar Golf Club, phone 5352 4297. Entries close on Monday.

The fun run-walk will start at 9am, the golf will hit off with a shotgun start at noon, with registration from 11.30am, while the bowls will start at 1pm, with registration from 12.15am.
