Challicum gives Dodson a spark

-

Telopea Downs trainer Darryl Dodson returned to winning form at Monday’s Naracoorte meeting.

Challicum represented the Dodson yard in a 1430-metre maiden, with Eran Boyd in the saddle.

The son of Anacheeva appeared to race greenly, however still managed to get a nice run in the second half of the field. From there Challicum eased into clear galloping room before the turn.

When balanced, the fouryear-old gelding came home with a withering burst.

Over the concluding stages, Challicum proved too classy, saluting by a length.

If the penny drops with Challicum, he could certainly win better races in the future throughout the Limestone Coast.

Yendall wins

Horsham jockey Dean Yendall tasted metropolitan success aboard the Darren Weir-trained Grey Shadow at Caulfield. Contesting a benchmark-90 event for mares, $5.50 Grey Shadow was given a beautiful ride, finding the box seat without any trouble.

The Dash for Cash mare continued to travel strongly, letting go with a strong run and powering away in the straight to score comfortably by more than a length.

Sunday’s win on the spring stage was timely for Yendall, as he looks to secure mounts for the upcoming spring features.

• Racing action returns to Murtoa on Saturday for the 2018 QLS Logistics Murtoa Cup.
