Mayor 3ap Clarke said the free prograp was easy and fun way for kids to get active and learn healthy habits for life. ³Council has received a :alk to 6chool grant frop 9ichealth and is pleased to support si[ pripary schools by deliver ing local :alk to 6chool activities and initiatives that encourage ongoing active travel ´ she said. ³:alking riding or scooting to and frop school every day is an easy way to Pake physical activity part of kids¶ daily life which is why our :alk to 6chool prograp is so ipportant. ³,t¶s also a great way to spend sope Tual ity tipe with your fapily without the usual hustle and bustle of school drop off and pickup involved ´ she said. :ippera Health Care *roup Coppunity Health Coordinator Janine Harfield said students who lived too far frop school were encouraged to consider finding a suitable drop off point so they can walk/ ride/scoot part of the way. ³:alk to 6chool Month suits people with every level of fitness and we also want to ensure students who are not within walk ing distance of their school to participate ´ Ms Harfield said. ³7he idea is for parents to park a block or two frop the school and walk with their children until they are happy they are safe crossing the roads.
