Lawn side dominant
Horsham Lawn and St Michaels are the early frontrunners after round two of Central Wimmera Tennis Association’s pennant competition.
Horsham Lawn recorded a dominant victory against Telangatuk East, winning 11-103 to 3-58.
Lawn was especially dominant in the men’s singles, with Jae Mcgrath and Graeme Wood winning their rubbers 8-0 and 8-1 respectively.
Kate Rogers helped get Telangatuk East on the board, winning her singles rubber against Laura Rosevear 8-4 and teaming up with Fiona Price to take a doubles set 8-4.
St Michaels had a much tougher time against Haven, winning eight sets to six despite winning fewer games.
A 4-0 sweep of the singles rubbers saved the Saints, with Angela Nitschke’s 8-7 win against Haven’s Sophie De Wit a highlight.
Kalkee narrowly edged out Drung South in the final match of the round, winning 8-80 to 6-75.
Horsham Lawn will attempt to defend top spot this week when it takes on Haven at home.
St Michaels will host Kalkee and Drung South travels to Telangatuk East.
