Long-service recognition
Northern Grampians Shire councillor Kevin Erwin has won recognition for 15 years of service to the organisation.
Cr Erwin received a 15-year Victorian Councillor Service Award at Municipal Association of Victoria’s annual conference dinner.
The award recognises the contribution of all councillors and continues the tradition of conferring awards for long-serving councillors.
Cr Erwin was first elected to council on March 14, 2003.
The association has six award categories, for 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years’ service, along with the mayor emeritus award, which recognises councillors who have served three full terms or more as mayor.
Cr Erwin collected a mayor emeritus award, having served mayoral terms in 2005-06, 2008-09 and 2009-10. Cr Erwin said 15 years had passed quickly.
“I’ve always been involved in doing something for the community and this is just an extension of that,” he said.
“It’s really rewarding and satisfying when you achieve something for the community, and that’s what keeps me going.”
