Finals around the corner

- BY DAVID BERRY

With one round remaining in Volleyball Horsham A and B grade competitions finalists are now decided.

In A Grade there is a three-way battle for top spot with Shados Inala, Volleyroos and New York Nuggets all locked on 27 points each, with Phantoms rounding out the top four.

The double chance will be on the line tonight when the final two games are played, with Shados Inala taking on Raptors at 6pm followed by Phantoms and Raptors at 7.30pm.

The Raptors were good but unlucky in their two losses last week and could cause an upset against ladder leader Shados Inala.

Veteran Tim Popple will be the key to the outcome of this match.

If he is on song early, Shados Inala should retain top spot and therefore the double chance in the finals.

Popple will look to Shaun Bray to pass consistently with support from Tyler Snowden.

Raptors have Harry Combe back in good form. The youngster suffered a serious calf injury during the footy season, but his efforts last week, where he passed well and hit strongly, show he is back to his best.

Combe will look to setter John Kearns to get the ball to him and Will Brennan, who is their key passer.

In B Grade there will be some familiarity about the finals with perennial finalists Waterhammers and Von Steiger Brothers assured of their spots, while newcomers Murtoa and Von Steiger Barbarians will play finals for the first time. It is now all about the final four positions and who can grab the double chance.

Von Steiger Brothers are favored to grab second spot on the ladder because they should make short work of the Von Steiger Breakers.

The final game sees Waterhammers and Phantom Masters do battle. Phantom Masters will be seething after Murtoa ended any chance it had of making finals with a straightsets win. They are playing for pride and the Waterhammers need to be careful they do not drop this game and miss the double chance.

It all points to an exciting finish to another great season of volleyball.
