Shade sails for skaters
Horsham Sports and Community Club has provided $15,000 for the installation of two new shade sails at Horsham Skate Park.
The sails are already in place at the park on the corner of Natimuk Road and Park Drive.
Club manager Glenn Carroll said the board was fully supportive of the project put forward by Horsham Rural City Council.
“The completed shade sails look fantastic and will provide relief from the elements for all users and observers,” he said.
“The club was able to provide $15,000 to support the project through our major community project funding.
“It took the number of projects funded through this program to 20, with more than $400,000 allocated.
“Horsham Sports and Community Club continues to look for opportunities to support the community and expects to make more announcements about future projects soon.”
Horsham project office co-ordinator Sue Newall said the council appreciated the support.
“The skate park is an important regional outdoor recreation facility that required additional shade protection for all users and spectators,” she said.
“The shade cover at the park was minimal and skaters expressed a need for additional shade. The new sails triple the shaded area and are already getting plenty of use.”
