Exploration reveals more gold

-

Gold exploration in the region continues to provide tantalising prospects of a major resurgence in mining of the precious metal.

Navarre Minerals managing director Geoff Mcdermott is confident a new drilling program at Langi Logan, about 40 kilometres south of Stawell, represents a new gold discovery.

“This is an excellent start to our maiden drilling program at Langi Logan,” he said.

“Although the current drilling is a reconnaissance program, the initial results indicate a new gold discovery and our second potential major gold find along the proven Stawell Gold Corridor.

“The width and grade of the shallow drill hits in hole LLA014 appear to be of ‘ore grade’ and are reminiscent of the ‘sweet spots’ in Stawell’s nearby Magdala Gold Mine.

“We look forward to reporting the next batch of results of this ongoing drilling program.”

Drilling at Langi Logan, the next major Cambrian basalt dome target south of Navarre’s flagship Irvine Gold Project, started last month and results represent the first 15 of 22 air-

core drill tests. Mr Mcdermott said Navarre Minerals had identified three priority targets for drill testing along the margins of a Langi Logan basalt dome based on multiple coincident anomalies.

He said the drilling program would also test several structural targets further south on the margins of the basalt dome where there has been no previous drilling.

The results support Navarre’s view that Langi Logan has the potential to be a new large-scale, high-quality shear-hosted gold system similar to Stawell’s recently reopened gold mine.

Navarre Minerals is confident it is on track to find the source of historic Ararat Goldfield.

Its Irvine Gold Project is within a 30-kilometre stretch of the Stawell Gold Corridor that runs between Stawell and Ararat.

The Victorian gold rush of the mid1800s forged the cities of Ararat and Stawell, as well as Ballarat, Bendigo and other western Victorian centres.
