Eight ball players on cue for centre
Horsham Eight Ball Association has put its shoulder behind a regional fight against cancer with a donation to Wimmera Cancer Centre.
The association, with help from Horsham’s Bull and Mouth Hotel, has provided money for the centre to buy a cancer treatment chair.
The chairs cost $6169 and the association has provided $5000, generated through regular competition, and the Bull and Mouth Hotel has made up the balance.
Association treasurer and Bull and Mouth Hotel publican Simon Mitchell said he knew from experience how important the special chairs were in cancer treatment.
“As one of our generous members said, one day one of us here might be sitting in the chair. It’s good to be able to give something back,” he said.
The new centre continues to take shape with Wimmera Health Care Group chief executive Catherine Morley explaining that work was ‘coming along nicely’.
“Power and water is on and the internal fixtures are being fitted,” she said.
“The painting is almost complete and installation of vinyl flooring is continuing.
“The concrete in the car park has just been poured and looks great.”
Ms Morley said the project was on schedule and she was looking forward to an open day to show the community what its donations helped to create.
