St Marys sets the sustainabl­e pace

St Marys Catholic Primary School at Warracknab­eal is Resourcesm­art Schools School of the Year for the region.

The school won the award during Resourcesm­art Schools celebratio­ns at Longerenon­g College.

It also won an energy-section DZDUG UDQNHG DV D ¿YH VWDU school – the highest ranking in WKH SURJUDP ± DQG ZLOO UHFHLYH a ‘special buddy’ bench from Replas made from recycled soft plastics – the material shoppers drop off at supermarke­ts.

7KHUH ZHUH DOVR YDULRXV 5H sourcesmar­t Schools category winners.

Marnoo Primary School, with its 10 students working on the program for about four years and nearing a four-star rating, won a water category award.

St Arnaud Primary, a relaWLYHO\ QHZ VFKRRO WR WKH 566 SURJUDP DQG DOVR LQYROYHG LQ a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, won a waste category.

$ ELRGLYHUVL­W\ FDWHJRU\ award went to Willaura Primary School, another new school that has also joined the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

The program promotes sustainabi­lity in all aspects of a school including operations, curriculum and community engagement.

*HW *UXEE\ WHOHYLVLRQ VKRZ characters ‘Dirt Girl’, Maree Lowes, and ‘Costa the Garden Gnome’, Costa Georgiadis, hosted the celebratio­ns.

Granny Skills guru Rebecca 6XOOLYDQ MRLQHG WKH *HW *UXEE\ stars to celebrate with the children throughout the day.

The Get Grubby pair started WKH GD\ ZLWK D YLVLW WR +RUVK am Early Learning Centre and pre-schoolers.
