Volunteers are key to good schools
AHorsham primary school principal used International Volunteer Day to stress the importance of the contribution of volunteers to school communities.
Horsham Primary School principal Chris Walter said it was important to recognise the value of people who put their hands up to help with education.
The school organised a morning tea at Rasmussen and Horsham 298 campuses for volunteers in recognition of their contribution.
Mr Walter said at least 50 people provided volunteer services across the campuses.
“They are super-important to the overall school community. Their contributions do so much to our programs,” he said.
“There is only so much we can do as teachers and staff at school, but to have that additional support is invaluable.”
Mr Walter stressed that volunteers also helped in guiding the direction of students.

“Then you have things such as sports days, school camps, reading programs and other activities, which without volunteers simply are not going to happen.”
Organisations across the Wimmera made the most of International Volunteer Day last week to celebrate the region’s army of unpaid support workers.
