Money for Demons dream kitchen

+RUVKDP )RRWEDOO 1HWEDOO &OXE volunteers will be able to cook up a storm in comfort next year, with $11,195 in Federal Government money announced for a redevelopment of the club’s kitchen facilities.

The club has already installed a new air-conditioning system to keep volunteers cool while they cook, and will match the government’s contribution.

Club chairman Geoff Lord said the upgrades would be a boost for the club and other community groups that made use of its kitchen.

“On a Thursday night it’s a good get-together and of course we announce the teams, so it’s quite a social family activity,” he said.

“We host weddings, we’ve had a number of 21sts this year as well and a number of other groups. The cricket folk get up here as well and we had some visiting motorcycle folk in Horsham in September.”

+RUVKDP )RRWEDOO 1HWEDOO &OXE director of catering Denise Dumesny said the upgrades would make the kitchen safer and more comfortable for volunteers.

“Our major focus is to make life easy for the volunteers who work in the kitchen,” she said.

“We put out large quantities of meals. We do Thursday night dinners, we do a lot of social events, but the most important thing is that the volunteers are comfortable to work in there and that the environment is safe.

“On Thursday nights we usually do about 100 meals for senior footballers and netballers.

“We probably do anywhere between 50 and 80 meals for junior footballers and netballers, so about 180 meals each week.

“It takes a big team of people to make that happen.”

Federal Member for Mallee Andrew Broad said investing in the club’s kitchen facilities ZRXOG EULQJ EHQH¿WV WR WKH +RU sham district community.

“It appears… this kitchen is getting used all the time,” he said.
