Momentum builds for final festival

-

Momentum is building for the 12th and final Horsham Country Music Festival.

A committee is preparing for a huge event, ensuring the final festival, from March 21 to 24, is the biggest and best.

Festival co-ordinator Lyall Wheaton said interest in the 2019 festival was strong, with many long-term patrons disappointed this would be the final event.

“Unfortunately age and health has caught up with quite a few members of the committee and attempts to recruit new members have been unsuccessful,” he said.

Mr Wheaton said patrons attending the final festival would see the best artists who had performed at Horsham in the 11 years the festival had been running.

“The artist line up will comprise Laura Downing and Kiara Rodrigues from Queensland, Dwayne Elix, Peter Coad and the Coad Sisters, Brian Letton and Johanna Hemara from New South Wales, and Don Costa, Justin Standley, Sandie Dodd, Trevor Keilar, Col Perkins and Lachie and Georgia Mcgennisken from Victoria,” he said.

Mr Wheaton said despite the Horsham Country Music Festival finishing after this year’s event, the Horsham Country Music committee would continue to run dinner and show packages and Morning Melodies.

The Horsham Country Music year starts on February 7 and 8 with a dinner and show package and Morning Melodies, at Horsham RSL.

Bendigo-based Cameron Mason and Venessa Warra from Hynes Reserve will feature.

Mr Wheaton said both Mason and Warra have performed for Horsham Country Music, either at the festival or RSL, on numerous occasions.

“They are both well known and popular artists,” he said.

Mr Wheaton said tickets are available from Horsham RSL in Mclachlan Street.

The dinner and show package costs $35 and Morning Melodies, $15.

“The committee has seven shows organised for 2019, with artists including Wayne Horsborough, Brian Letton, Rodney Vincent, Joy Adams and Trevor Keilar,” Mr Wheaton said.

He said people wanting more information about the festival could call the Horsham Visitor Information Centre on 1800 633 218 or himself, festival co-ordinator, on 5381 1995.
