Awards for volunteers

Horsham Centre for Participation will open nominations for the 2019 Volunteering Recognition Awards on February 13.

The awards, which are hosted every two years, celebrate the contributions of volunteers across the Wimmera.

Nominations are open to communities in Horsham Rural City, Hindmarsh, Northern Grampians, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack municipalities.

Centre for Participation chief executive Julie Pettett said the awards would help acknowledge the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations across the Wimmera.

“This is a great opportunity to recognise the remarkable efforts volunteers contribute in our communities and organisations,” she said.

“We are pleased to again be celebrating these outstanding achievements, as well as announcing some changes to the awards for 2019, including 1089 3WM, MIXX FM and The Weekly Advertiser coming on board as the major sponsor, and the introduction of a new people’s choice award, sponsored by Bendigo Bank.”

Hosted at Horsham Town Hall on Friday, May 17, the awards will see winners announced across a total of 19 categories.

In another new move, the centre will host roadshows in each shire to showcase the awards and assist communities with the nomination process. Nomination forms will be available from the Centre for Participation at 39 Urquhart Street, Horsham, or online at www.centreforparticipation.org.au.

Nominations close on March 13.
