Restoration project starts
Restoration work on Ararat’s memorial fountain is underway.
Heritage contractor Andrew Thorn will restore and replace damaged and broken surface features.
The fountain also requires re-plumbing of its internal reticulation system, repainting and repair work to various gryphon, dolphin and grotesque mask ornaments that adorn it.
Ararat Rural City mayor Peter Beales said the work, expected to take about six months to complete, would make the fountain ‘the centrepiece of the civic precinct’.
The Federal Government committed $67,000 towards the project.
