Junior Country Week under-15 cricket action kicked off in Horsham on Monday with eight representa­tive teams across two pools vying to make the grand final.

Horsham Cricket Associatio­n suffered a first-up defeat to Warrnamboo­l Blue at Horsham City Oval. The visitors benefited from 36 extras, including 15 wides and 16 byes, as they barely managed to overhaul Horsham’s total of 114 from 45 overs.

Wimmera-mallee also lost, to Warrnamboo­l Gold, dismissed for 64 after it was set a huge target of 256.

Mount Gambier defeated Colac Gold and Colac Black downed Portland in other round one results.

The results of yesterday’s matches were not available when The Weekly Advertiser went to press.

Today, action will resume with Horsham taking on Colac Black at Sunnyside, Wimmera-mallee will meet Colac Gold at Horsham Community Sports Oval, Warrnamboo­l Gold will take on Mount Gambier at Dimboola and Warrnamboo­l Blue will meet Portland at Dudley Cornell Park. Finals will start tomorrow.
