Final call for Rates Review feedback
People have until 5pm Thursday to have their say on the proposed changes to the way rates are calculated. An increased discount for farmers is among several proposed changes identified as part of the Draft Rating Policy and Draft Rating Strategy 2019-23. Other planned alterations include a five per cent discount for the commercial and industrial sectors, while the residential ratepayer sector will pay a higher portion of the rate burden. The nine-person Rates Strategy Advisory Committee was then appointed to provide independent advice on a fair and equitable distribution of the rate burden across all sectors of the community. The Committee was facilitated by an independent chairperson with assistance from an independent consultant and received feedback from the community through an on-line survey, faceto-face meetings during several community drop-in sessions and through formal submissions.
