Buster Brady second wind secures Cup
Nagambie horsewoman Kima Frenning and her ‘iron’ horse Buster Brady wore down tough opposition to capture the $60,000 2019 The Weekly Advertiser Horsham Pacing Cup.
The Swedish national and rejuvenated former New Zealand gelding made it five Victorian country cups for the season when they added the Horsham prize to earlier trophies.
Buster Brady started at the short quote of $1.60 but backers of the favourite had all but torn up their tickets halfway down the home stretch.
Front runners Cant Refuse and Jilliby Chevy kicked well clear of the field and Buster Brady appeared to have run his race.
But somehow Buster Brady managed to balance up and find the necessary reserves to reel the leaders.
The Weekly Advertiser Pacing Cup meeting at Horsham Racing Centre, despite overcast and cool conditions, proved popular with an enthusiastic family crowd on Sunday.
Horsham and District Harness Racing Club threw the gates open to the public, inviting patrons instead to donate money towards the Royal Flying Doctor Service mental-health unit, via ‘The Naked Farmer’ Ben Brooksby.
The meeting featured a variety of highlights, from children soaking up activities on jumping castles and getting up close and personal with former racehorses to the intense action on the track.
