Clash of the heavyweights

- BY COLIN MACGILLIVRAY

Horsham District A Grade netball competition heavyweights Laharum and Harrow-balmoral will put their undefeated status on the line in a clash at Cameron Oval on Saturday.

The Demons, runners-up last season, have been the form team of the competition to start 2019, winning their first four matches by an average margin of 45 goals.

The Roos are also undefeated and will be Laharum’s toughest test of the young season so far.

Harrow-balmoral had an impressive win against 2018 preliminary finalist Edenhope-apsley at the weekend, riding the momentum of a 16-goals-to-six second quarter to an eventual 57-39 victory.

Rebecca Francis shone in midcourt for the Roos, while the defensive tandem of Kate Vickery and Ebonie Salter was miserly as usual.

They will need to be at their best to combat the firepower of Laharum goalies Caitlin Story and Maddie Iredell.

The pair was in fine form during the Demons’ 64-27 win against Kalkee at the weekend and have their team averaging a league-high 71.25 goals per match.

Natimuk United, the league’s third undefeated side, faces an easier test against winless Pimpinio on Saturday.

The Ewes got an early jump on Noradjuha-quantong at the weekend and maintained their lead throughout the 4330 victory.

Natimuk United’s Casey Vanstan held Bombers goal shooter Lucy Brand to 22 goals for the afternoon and could make life difficult for Pimpinio goalies Jenelle Baker and Lana Ellis.

The pair helped the Tigers stage a gallant second-half fightback against Jeparit-rainbow that fell just short, ending in an agonising 45-44 defeat.

Wing attack Rylee Cocks and wing defence Elly Schumann were the best players for the Storm, which can improve its record to 2-2 on Saturday with a win against Taylors Lake.

The Lakers were no match for Swifts, going down 77-29 behind a sensational effort from Baggies wing attack Kristy Dodds.

Swifts will now host Kalkee, while Rupanyup returns from a bye to play Edenhope-apsley at Edenhope.

Noradjuha-quantong has a bye round. this
