99th an­nual Nhill tee-off

Nhill Golf Club will cel­e­brate a year shy of a cen­tury with its 99th an­nual tour­na­ment start­ing tom­mor­row.

Kick­ing off a host of events will be a ladies day, with entrants con­test­ing to­mor­row’s Bet Bus­sau Me­mo­rial Cup with 18 holes of stroke play.

Fri­day sees the men’s four-ball best-ball par and women’s Sta­ble­ford ag­gre­gate com­pe­ti­tions.

Men’s and women’s four-ball best-ball Stable­fords will be on Satur­day, with mixed Pine­hurst and men’s stroke on Sun­day.

The fi­nal day of the tour­na­ment will see the con­clu­sion of the men’s Lowan Cup – a 36-hole scratch event – and men’s and women’s 18-hole scratch com­pe­ti­tions.

Club cap­tain Shane Grover said about 500 golfers were ex­pected to con­test the tour­na­ment, which is the first of a se­ries of golf club tour­na­ments across the Wim­mera.

“For Nhill Golf Club to run its 99th an­nual golf tour­na­ment is a mighty achieve­ment,” he said.

“The course is in mag­nif­i­cent con­di­tion and if weather con­di­tions are good we can ex­pect about 500 golfers to try their hand.

“Every at­tempt has been made to of­fer vis­i­tors a good range of tro­phies.

“The five par-threes all of­fer a great prize for the best shot dur­ing the week­end.”

Mr Grover said there were a lim­ited num­ber of golf carts for hire dur­ing the tour­na­ment.
