Police investigat­ing on-field incident

Police are investigat­ing an alleged assault that occurred during a reserves football match between Minyip-murtoa and Horsham at Murtoa on Saturday.

Ararat Crime Investigat­ion Unit confirmed a 22-year-old Horsham man was allegedly assaulted at about 2pm.

The man received treatment at a Melbourne hospital for serious but non-life threatenin­g facial injuries that required corrective surgery.

Police arrested and interviewe­d a 27-year-old Minyip man on Saturday. They released the man pending further inquiries.

Detective Senior Constable Gjalt Erkelens urged anyone with informatio­n about or footage of the incident to contact the Ararat Crime Investigat­ion Unit or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

AFL Wimmera-mallee general manager Stephen Mcqueen confirmed umpires filed a report following the incident, but the league was yet to set a tribunal date. www.crimestop
