Birthday success

-

The 85th birthday celebrations for Country Women’s Association Dimboola branch have been and gone.

What a truly inspirational day it was, with representatives from West Wimmera Group branches attending, including sister branch Central Wimmera Willenabrina and special friend, Paul.

Paul has been a big part of Dimboola branch for almost 50 years, since members began sharing and engaging with him as a then threeyear-old at Woodbine.

Paul now regards each and every one of the ladies as his family.

A feature of the tables at the celebrations was yellow placemats with the CWA logo and telling the story of Dimboola CWA from its beginning in 1934 through to the present, in cleverly worded prose by member Mandy Myers.

An achievement few can match was acknowledged with the presentation of a badge and certificate to Shirley Rankin for 66 years of membership. Shirley Launer also marked up 60 years, a truly wonderful effort ladies – well done!

The Victorian State Conference at Williamstown saw the changing of the guard with Marion Dewar installed as state president for 201920.

In West Wimmera, Judi Pymer took over from Sadie Williams, and Prue Mccredden, Central Wimmera, following on from Jenni Turnbull. Both of these ladies will have big shoes to fill. Sadie and Jenni were exceptional group presidents. We have every confidence in Judi and Prue.

Eight members from West Wimmera attended the state conference, where a resolution West Wimmera group put forward, regarding the return of passenger train services to Horsham, was supported unanimously.

We now need to lobby all relevant groups to start the process.

Newly formed Kaniva branch ladies took up a collection of goods for needy men for the state conference charity, Anglicare.

We wish president Kathryn Champness and her members well as they join in the activities and fellowship of West Wimmera.

Four junior members of CWA branch East Wimmera, participated in the CWA World Conference in Melbourne, in an opening ceremony as flag bearers.

In the June edition of the Victorian Country Woman Magazine, both Central and West Wimmera branches featured with photos and items of interest. Of special note was a photo of Drung South foundation member Margaret Uebergang, a member for 56 years, being presented with the 90th CWA of Victoria badge.

Members are planning to celebrate this branch birthday with a lunch later this month.

Coming up is a West Wimmera Group leather, bead, gum leaves and crochet craft day at Dimboola Senior Citizens Hall on July 15 and West Wimmera Group Conference, hosted by May Branch, at Horsham’s Uniting Church Hall on August 16.
