New ‘Coffee Palace Park’ at Stawell
An intersection of Main, Victoria and St Georges streets in Stawell will now be known as Coffee Palace Park.
Northern Grampians Shire Council voted at its June meeting to adopt the name.
The official naming comes after community consultation, with overwhelming support of the proposed Coffee Palace Park name, based on the site’s historical significance and connection to the ‘Coffee Palace’, a tenant at the site from 1889 to1956.
The council will now explore further enhancing the space by displaying information about the site’s predecessors.
Northern Grampians mayor Kevin Erwin said most community comments were based on having some history of the site on display.
