Nhill Golf Club has again proven itself to be one of the premier attractions in the region, with record numbers for its 99th annual June Tournament at the weekend.

More than 40 women competed in the Memorial Stroke event on Thursday, with Libby Lacey, 72, shooting the best nett score.

On Friday a field of 118 players contested the men’s four-ball, best-ball par. The winners were Barry Turnbull and Graham Pilgrim with a score of plus-seven on countback from six other groups.

A whopping 162 players contested the men’s and women’s four-ball, best-ball Stableford on Saturday.

Despite playing their last hole in the dark, a team of Lynne Smith and Janine Grover won the women’s event with 47 points, while David Ryan and David Crouch used local knowledge to their advantage to rack up 46 points and win the men’s section on countback.

Mixed Pinehurst and men’s stroke events were on Sunday, with another excellent field of 132 golfers.

Libby Lacey and Oliver Smith won the Pinehurst with a score of 70, while David Staples needed a countback to defeat David Flood in the men’s stroke.

The tournament concluded on Monday with a 36hole stroke event, attracting 43 players including some of the best Wimmera talent. An additional 25 players played an 18-hole stroke event.

David Flood broke through for his first win in the 36-hole scratch event with two rounds of 74 and a total of 148.

In the 18-hole stroke, David Staples won A Grade with a score of 73.

Next year the club will celebrate the 100th year of this event and plans are already underway.
