Girls make Bull­dogs squads

Wim­mera foot­ballers Ella Friend and Olivia Bril­liant, Hor­sham Saints, Hai­ley Puls and Holly Nuske, Hor­sham, and Jesse Bligh, Stawell, have made Western Bull­dogs Girls Next Gen­er­a­tion Academy squads.

Friend, Puls, Nuske and Bligh are in an un­der-16 squad and Bril­liant an un­der-15 squad.

The un­der-16 squad will com­pete in a Next Gen­er­a­tion Academy car­ni­val fea­tur­ing eight teams in late Septem­ber. An un­der-15 V/line Cup Car­ni­val will be at Shep­par­ton from Septem­ber 22 to 25.

Both squads have taken shape dur­ing the past six weeks, start­ing with two train­ing squads made up of 30 girls from a com­bined Wim­mer­awest­ern Dis­trict side and a Gold­fields team.

The squads trained for four weeks and played two re­gional trial games dur­ing school break.
