In­dus­try lead­ers to spark con­ver­sa­tion

A free in­for­ma­tion day for mixed grain and live­stock farm­ers will be at Wallup to­mor­row.

The ses­sion, pre­sented by Grains Re­search and De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion, Birchip Crop­ping Group, Ag Ex Al­liance and the Wallup Ag Group, will pro­vide in­for­ma­tion on top­ics in­clud­ing grazing crops and stub­bles, feed man­age­ment to op­ti­mise sheep pro­duc­tion, in­te­grat­ing ag tech into a sheep enterprise, and mak­ing good de­ci­sions to pull it all to­gether.

BCG live­stock sys­tems of­fi­cer and event or­gan­iser Ali­son Frischke said the free ses­sion would fea­ture talks from in­dus­try lead­ers.

“We’re ex­cited to bring ex­pe­ri­enced farm­ers and in­dus­try ex­perts to­gether in the same room, on the same day to share their knowl­edge,” she said.

Dr Steve Cot­ton, a re­spected ad­vi­sor from Dy­namic Ag, will dis­cuss manag­ing feed in crop­ping sys­tems to meet sheep flock nu­tri­tional needs.

Grower Scott Ni­chol­son, a Nuffield scholar from Camp­bells Bridge study­ing tech­nol­ogy in the sheep and wool in­dus­try, will share his ex­pe­ri­ences and Ni­con Ru­ral Ser­vices’ Cam Ni­chol­son will dis­cuss de­ci­sion mak­ing and whole farm risk man­age­ment.

Ad­vi­sor John Stuch­bery from Agriv­i­sion and hay con­trac­tor and mar­keter Green and Gold Con­tract­ing will round out the pro­gram with a dis­cus­sion about agron­omy and pro­duc­tion for qual­ity hay.
