Star at Murtoa Cup
Richmond AFL Premiership player Tom Lynch will be a guest in an Erin Bank Enclosure at Murtoa Cup Day on Saturday.
Lynch, who has strong family connections at Murtoa, kicked two goals and took seven marks in the Tigers’ big win over Greater Western Sydney last weekend. His grand-final performance followed a five-goal haul in a preliminary-final win against Geelong the previous week.
Murtoa-marma Racing Club racing operations manager Penny Penfold said the club was thrilled to be hosting the Tigers star as part of celebrations.
“It will be a real family affair on Saturday – Tom has four uncles on our committee, one of whom is club president, and another who is club secretary-track manager. He also has two cousins on the committee and two aunts heavily involved in the club,” she said.
Ms Penfold said limited tickets to the Erin Bank Enclosure were still available to buy online for $130, which includes gourmet finger food and a beverage package.
Feature races on the day include the $45,000 Ecycle Solutions Murtoa Cup, along with the first heat of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Series, worth $100,000.
As part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Series, the Melbourne Cup Trophy will be on display and available for photographic opportunities.
The meeting also features a variety of entertainment activities with Wimmera musician Jeff Woodward performing and a jumping castle and face-painting for children.
Ms Penfold said Exquisite Fashions on the Field always attracted highquality entrants, and with a raft of categories and prizes up for grabs on Saturday, it was worth women donning their best race-day outfits.
She said the club was lucky to have several sponsors and race-day partners, and thanked them for their contributions.
TAC will provide a free bus service from Warracknabeal during the event.
Gates open at 11am, and the first race gets underway about 1pm.
