Meals on Wheels volunteers celebrated

Wimmera communities will celebrate National Meals on Wheels Day today.

Centre for Participation acting chief executive Robbie Millar said Meals on Wheels had been supporting the health and wellbeing of older and vulnerable people within Horsham

and Natimuk communities for more than 60 years.

“This year we will be recognising the dedication, commitment and resilience of the 378 Meals on Wheels volunteers, who have tirelessly supported 90 vulnerable members of the community,” he said.

“Since the beginning of the year, these amazing volunteers have delivered 7587 meals to vulnerable members of our community.

“Having noticed a decline in volunteers over the past 18 months, we are also making an urgent call to address the need for more delivery drivers, a volunteer opportunity we desperately need filling.

“Put simply – Meals on Wheels needs more wheels.”
