Gwmwater shortlisted
Gwmwater’s Urban Customer Portal has won recognition in a national industry awards program.
The project was named a finalist in the water category of the 2021 Internet of Things – IOT – Awards.
Gwmwater used Internet of Things – IOT – communication technology across its urban towns to connect 29,000 communications-enabled, allin-one water meters and 3000 retrofitted meters to a secure network.
The water-use data was then made available to customers through an online customer portal that can be accessed on computers, tablets and smart phones.
Managing director Mark Williams said the technology was empowering customers to better understand their water use.
“Using this technology, Gwmwater is empowering rural and urban customers with near real-time data in a customer portal so they can identify leaks, as well as adjust their water use and consumption patterns where required,” he said.
“The technology has already enabled us to assist many customers in identifying issues beyond the water meter, saving water and reducing costs to customers.”
Mr Williams said being shortlisted for the award was an honour and recognised efforts of staff who made the roll-out a success.
