Traditional sales return

-

Traditional poppy sales as part of Remembrance Day are back in the lead up to the November 11 commemorations.

RSL volunteers are selling poppies to acknowledge and reflect on the sacrifice people have made during war and raise money to support veterans and their families.

The annual RSL Poppy Appeal is in its 100th year and in Horsham sales will resume at various shopping locations including Horsham Post Office and Bunnings tomorrow and Friday.

Horsham RSL sub-branch president Don Pirouet said he welcomed an opportunity for a return to normality and a return to poppy sales after a difficult 18 months.

“It’s good to get some sort of normality back. It’s been a very tough year for the club and been a very tough year for hospitality,” he said.

“When we’re closed, we can’t really raise the funds needed to support our veterans so it will be good with an increase in patron capacity.

“Remembrance and Anzac Day are the two days as Australians we really need to reflect and remember the sacrifices of the past.

“The past couple of years have been trying in getting services off the ground but I think we’ve done pretty well. But we’re back into it this year and looking forward to Remembrance Day activities.”
