Coffee at Pink Lake

-

People visiting the Wimmera’s iconic Pink Lake near Dimboola now have an opportunity take in the experience of the historic area with a coffee or similar beverage.

Barengi Gadjin Land Council, as part of its long-term vision for economic sustainability and strong and healthy Wotjobaluk culture and country, has its Dalki Garringa Coffee Van trading at the site for Western Highway travellers and visitors.

Pink Lake is a salt lake that gets its pink colour from pigment produced by a type of bacteria. The land council has exclusive permission from the Department of Transport to operate at the popular tourism spot.

The coffee van operates from the lake car park, offering hot and cold beverages, indigenous baked biscuits and the iconic Mt Zero Pink Lake salt produce. The land council has a licence agreement with the producer, Mt Zero Olives.

The van trades between 10am and 3pm Friday to Sunday and will consider extended trading based on demand.

BGLC bought the coffee van in 2019 as part of an overarching economic development plan to grow native bush food on behalf of Traditional Owners.

Apart from setting up at Pink Lake, which has long provided a connection to country for Wotjobaluk people, the van is available for the region’s festival and event calendar.

The van employees are Traditional Owners and are part of the organisation’s strategy to support growth and employment for Wotjobaluk people.

Dalki Garringa, the land council’s native wholesale nursery, will also soon open its retail shop at Wail.
